Bus Shelters

Public transport is amazing due to its convenience, however external forces can very quickly make it inconvenient. Weather can rapidly ruin a commute and unsafe people can give an unfortunate sense of danger. Unfortunately, there is no way to permanently get rid of these inconveniences, but cities are able to minimize these miseries by implementing something as simple as bus shelters.

The City of College Station, Texas is seeking qualified contractors to submit bids for the construction of a bus shelter on Texas Avenue in front of City Hall. Built in a relatively busy section of the city, this bus shelter will see much use as it helps shield passengers and simple bystanders from the weather, offering a place to sit and safely wait for the bus. The simple addition to a bustling city can drastically improve transit experience, making public transportation a more reliable and user-friendly option. In bad weather, many people miss their bus simply because they went somewhere else to wait for their arrival; the implementation of a bus shelter would eliminate the need to wait for the bus in potentially far away places, allowing for passengers to more consistently make their bus.

Beyond aiding in catching rides, bus shelters improve safety and security. They consistently incorporate both lighting and cameras, creating a much safer environment, especially at night, which can lead to a more appealing form of transportation for people. Bus shelters can also contribute to public transportation by being a more pronounced than the regular bus signs. A taller and wider structure would surely be more recognizable than a street sign that is potentially nearby other street signs, helping travelers find their bus stop with little work. In addition, bus shelters can post important information, such as bus schedules or local events happening soon, aiding in community cohesiveness and dissemination of information. And, although not function related, bus shelters can aid in aesthetic purposes as well by being a piece that ties a theme together or by being a place for local art to be presented.
